Snus and the smoking ban

More and more countries are enforcing a ban on smoking in public places. Almost everywhere this ban is first met with great skepticism but after the ban has enforced most people prefer the smokeless alternative. People seem to like not to reek from smoke after a visit to the pub. Not very surprisingly if you ask me.

In Sweden the smoking ban was introduced in 2005. What happened in Sweden was that a lot of the smokers started to use snus when they went to pubs and restaurants since snus was unaffected by the ban on smoking.

For most of these smokers it was easy to make the switch from cigarettes to snus and it was mainly portions snus these smokers chose. Many of them started using snus even when they were at places where smoking was allowed since they discovered the benefits of using snus instead of cigarettes.

This increase in snus usage was something that the non tobacco users also appreciated since they were less exposed to second hand smoke after the ban was enforced. One of the benefits with snus is that is doesn’t bother any one else. This is not only a good thing for the people around the former smoker, but it also makes the former smoker feel better since he isn’t doing harm to anyone else and since he will get a lot less angry looks from people who don’t smoke.
